How would you sum up Lian Fisher?

A funky mover who never stops dancing! A fashion slave with rhythm who always has a professional poise!

Lian has danced from the age of 5. As well as dancing throughout her childhood, Lian was also a keen fitness and sports person and at the age of 18 took the opportunity to qualify as an RSA (Royal Society of Arts) Exercise to Music Instructor whilst studying for A Levels at Solihull Sixth Form College.

Learning Curves School of Dance was born in 1998. Lian qualified at Associate level with the International Dance Teachers Association, later gaining Licentiate qualification qualifying her to train students to Associate level with the IDTA.  Lian trained at one the top European schools  in Germany under the syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing achieving Licentiate status with a 99% pass rate in her professional exam and now is about to train her 13th candidate for professional examinations with the IDTA.  All of Lian’s team at Learning Curves have been trained “in-house” by Lian to qualify to Professional teaching standard.

Since 1998 Lian has taken Learning Curves from strength to strength. The School now has over 600 students and has evolved over the past 13 years to offer them a range of dance styles including Jazz, Contemporary, Street, Lyrical and Freestyle through a variety of classes including IDTA examinations,  Urban Evolutionz and Legendz Street Dance, JEMz Contemporary Dance, Mardi Gras Team, Dance4Fun, Performing Arts Holiday Workshops and Professional Training .

Students at Learning Curves are no strangers to the stage.  Performance is key and all students are encouraged to showcase their talents with opportunities ranging from the Dance School shows at the Solihull Arts Complex, IDTA Examinations held twice a year, local festivals and shopping centre performances to major presentations at Birmingham Symphony Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, Sadlers’ Wells theatre and more recently the Audi A1 car launch and representing Aviva and BRMB at the Britain’s Best Athletes Event.

Lian has always supported charities with her Dance School and over the years the students have raised over £20,000 for many causes including 4Jo Fund, Woodlands School, The Acorns Children’s Hospice, Leukemia Research Fund and the Children’s Variety Club.

It has been a real “Learning Curve” for Lian since starting the school as a fresh faced 19 year old!  Now it has become something she only ever dreamed of achieving.  Lian has so much more to offer the world of dance, and wants to continue inspiring students and teachers alike.

“Providing opportunities in performance, examinations and training ensures Learning Curves teachers and students go from strength to strength.  CPD (continued professional development) is crucial at Learning Curves to ensure our standards are always high and aim to be higher”

Lian is very proud of all her teachers and students, and their 100% success rate is a testimony to the hard work and determination that goes into every activity, echoing the school motto, ‘Live to dance’.
